I was raised protestant, but my mother’s best friend was the director of her CCD class in my little hometown’s only Catholic church. On Christmas Eve, her kids were in my Baptist Church’s Christmas Pageant, and then we all loaded in the car and drove across town for the Children’s Christmas Eve Mass at her church. When I got married, we had the ceremony rehearsal at my church the night before, then headed over to her church for the rehearsal dinner … since we could have wine. 🙂 So when we went to Italy in March 2017, I knew we would have to go to the Vatican for Joan. I read about private audiences with the Pope–and I like this Pope. He’s very human and relatable. So I faxed the Vatican, and they faxed me back. We got a front row seat to the Pope mobile. Bam! What a day!
